Korean Drama - Queen Seon Deok

I'm interested in this latest MBC period drama which is currently showing in Korea (since 25 May 2009) as actress Lee Yo Won (Surgeon Bong Dal Hee) will be in the leading character. Lee Yo Won will play as Princess Duk Man, the eldest daughter of Silla’s King Jin Pyung. Possessing an extraordinary charm and wit, she eventually became the first Queen (ruler) in the Korean history despite her being in the war-torn Korean Three Kingdoms Era (Goguryeo, BaekJae and Silla).

Uhm Tae Woong plays Kim Yu Shin, a general in 7th-century Silla. He led the unification of the Korean peninsula by Silla under the reign of King Muyeol of Silla and King Munmu of Silla. He is said to have been the great-grandchild of King Guhae of Geumgwan Gaya, the last ruler of the Geumgwan Gaya state. This would have given him a very high position in the Silla bone rank system, which governed the political and military status that a person could attain.

"Queen Seon-deok" starring Lee Yo-won and Ko Hyeon-jeong, achieved a rating higher than 20% only over the course of 3 episodes, looking victorious. "Queen Seon-deok's steep increase in rating is thanks to the main cast's excellent performances as well as the drama's fast-paced plot. Ko Hyeon-jeong's acting has wildly heated up major web portals. Viewers comment that Ko has perfectly acted out Misil's character, who seduces the main power controllers of Silla with her grace and beauty. Viewers especially praise Ko's performance with her expressive eyes that has vitalized the entire show of "Queen Seon-deok", enabling the record of a 23.3% rating on its third episode.

The other secret to "Queen Seon-deok"'s popularity is its fast paced plot. Historical dramas usually tend to fill up their earlier episodes with long historical explanations; however, "Queen Seon-deok" goes full throttle with its speedy unravelling of the story. It boldly skips over boring details and only pictures important events, keeping its audience riveted to their seats. All About Usamimi

Ever wonder why Usagimimi (or Usamimi in short) was such a popular theme to be used on anime / game characters? This issue needs to go back to moe anthropomorphism and I’m not typing them again since you can read them here.

In exchange of it, I’ll have a little discussion on usamimi itself in this entry. And yes, this is also a personal gift for one of my real life friend, Jen. Hope you like it~

Usagimimi / Usamimi literally means bunny ear. They’re usually used to ‘increase’ Moe-ness on a particular character or just simply for fan service. The most famous fan service up-to-date in my memory would be Kallen from Code Geass Season 2. I’m sure many viewers would remember the pink bunny girl costume on her (And I believe more wants it on CC).

Of course, who would forget the bunnies in The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi? This picture can be found easily in Google and other search engine, seriously.

Yoshiko Suenaga, Japanese model and gravure idol

When trying to come up a brilliant idea for my 499th post, I first considered a review of some 30 or 40 year old movie or OAV. But, in the end I decided to go with something that most males can agree with, a cute girl. I went through my stats and discovered that Yoshiko Suenaga has been the most popular girl that people have been checking out at my blog, so here’s a second dose of Yoshiko.

Yoshiko Suenaga is a Japanese model and gravure idol who has appeared in many photo books, and at least four DVDs. Princess Princess Premium artbook

As promised, fun continues with our trap Princesses…

Princess Princess Premium is really thin book, it contains 70 pages where 60 are full color. Book can be divided into two parts: artwork and doujinshi. First part consist of author Mikiyo Tsuda´s color art. There´s cover art of the manga and some are from the magazines she´s drawn. If you´ve read the manga you´ve already seen black-and-white versions of most of the pictures on this book. Photos I took are, at least to me, new material. Second part is Tsuda´s Princess Princess doujinshis. At the first story Mikoto sees a dream where he has really turned into a girl and the second story happens at the time when Student Counsil President Arisada was still a Princess.

My favourites are the ones with the blonde and meganekko. They are new generation Princesses from the sequel Princess Princess+. For some reason I like their looks more than original trio´s. Maybe it´s because of the long, wavy hair and glasses, hmmm… Anyway, this artbook made me interested of them and now I can´t wait to read +. Hurry up DMP, I need the last volume of Princess Princess translated to complete my collection and satisfy my curiosity regarding them! Until then, I just have to grasp this book more and maybe watch those DVDs I bought.

I love this artbook to the core even if it´s so small. Tsuda´s character designs and fashion sense please my eye as well the light colors she likes to use on her art. I always wanted to have clear versions of the art inside the manga, so now when I finally got this gorgeous piece of art which comes with new content, I´m the happiest fangirl on earth. <3~~

Howl's Moving Castle (2004)

Have you ever had an afternoon snack and then taken a little nap afterwards? And did that biscuit and glass of milk came back to you in psychadelic dream form, filling your head with colorful visions of how you never really graduated from primary school but need to do it all again, naked? Have you ever marvelled at how vivid and imaginative those dreams can be? How internally consistent they are, but how difficult they are to describe in waking life? Well, we could say the same thing about Hayao Miyazaki movies. Except for the naked bit.

Transcendental anime. Shades of Madeleine L'Engle, too.

Like your dream, Howl's Moving Castle is hard to describe. But if you've seen any of Miyazaki's other films (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke), it's all the same style of complex characterizations, blurry motives, meandering storylines, and the complete absence of the usual black-white movie moral dichotomy. This might make it sound like a bore, but trust us, it's really, really good. We highly recommend any of Miyazaki's movies, as they are so phemonenally imaginative. (Hence also why we went overboard on the screenshots.)

Howl's Moving Castle takes place in some sort of alternative universe Europe from the late 19th, early 20th century. The surrounding countryside could be the south of France, or Monaco, or Switzerland; the buildings could be from the London of H.G. Wells. Our heroine is Sophie Hatter, a self-described "plain" girl who makes hats (ha ha) and sort of hangs around. Her country is at war, and one day, when the soldiers go marching off to trumpets and parade banners, she wanders down an alley, is waylaid by some leery soldiers, and is saved by the anime version of David Bowie. This turns out to be the titular Howl, owner of the castle and wizard extraordinare. Howl's got some Blobbies of Doom (relatives of the Squigglies of Hate, no doubt) on his tail, and so he promptly escorts Sophie up into the clouds. This is a lovely scene.

Anyway, Sophie's all like, "Wow! Cool!" and Howl's like, "OK, seeya later." and Sophie's like, "Oh." A few days later, the fascinatingly fat Witch of the Waste shows up in Sophie's hat shop and promptly casts a spell on Sophie, reducing her to a shrivelled old lady who looks about 200 years old. The ever-plucky Sophie decides the only way she can get rid of this spell is to find that Howl guy, and off she goes, into the Sound of Music mountains to find his castle (which moves, inconveniently). Along the way she befriends a scarecrow who, yes, has a brain but cannot speak nor walk but only hop. She finds the castle, we are introduced to new characters - the adorable little boy, Markl, and the very cute fire demon, Calcifer - and Sophie meshes well, even though Howl is an idiot and has no idea that the Old Sophie he hired as a maid is actually also the Young Sophie he flirted with earlier. Or maybe he does know, and we're the idiots.

To war!

That's about as linear as we can make it, and that's only the first 20 minutes of the film. Just watch the rest of it, it's very worth it. Onto our thoughts now!

Well, we always like Miyazaki. And by "like" we actually mean "are blown away by". The man is a genius. He must have a circus in his head; a circus of GENIUS. You can see the genius in those moments when these little drawings stop to wipe their skirt or check their shoe to see what they stepped in; never have we seen such realism in animation. And such wonder! Every scene was an explosion of vividness and color, every little whir and wheeze of the moving castle itself was so meticulously there. In terms of imagery, it was fascinating and fun, and we were reduced to children with slack jaws going, "Wooo-ooow."

Despite the ending, which seemed somewhat too pat compared to Miyazaki's other works, the narrative was generous but never straightforward, and certainly never anything we could have expected. Goodbye, grounded and familiar land of cliché! Just as we sat entranced and morally confused in Princess Mononoke ("Who's the villain? Where the hell is Scar when you need him!"), so too did Howl's Moving Castle make us completely reevaluate characters. These are cartoon characters. We were reevaluating the morality of cartoon characters. THAT'S WHY HE IS SO GOOD.

The war hits close to home!

Then there are the ever-present themes of pacifism, flight, and personal evolution. We highly recommend reading Wikipedia's article on Hayao Miyazaki, which talks about his recurrent visual motifs and influences. And we highly recommend indoctrinating your children in Miyazaki, as his films will provide some welcome relief and freshness from the overly manipulative, overly morally-bland (Simba good, Scar bad) Disney standard.

Y.Kids Manga Literary Classics:

The Pince and The Puper, Daddy-long legs

First, a brief rant. Shame on Y.Kids for not giving credit to the actual writers and artists! I thought the dark days of uncredited comics were behind us. There is no excuse for failing to give proper recognition to the creative people that make your books possible. I hope that future printings will rectify this atrocity.

Second, a brief note on semantics. Y.Kids books aren’t actually manga. The books are by Singaporean artists and writers, imported to America by a Korean publisher. Like many other publishers, Y.Kids is jumping on the manga bandwagon. To make this more interesting, these books aren’t translated works, they were originally written in English. (English is the governmental language of Singapore.)

The Prince and the Pauper

The Prince and the Pauper is an adaptation of Mark Twain’s classic novel. It’s the story of Tom Canty and Prince Edward of England, two boys that look identical. Because of a quirky misunderstanding and circumstances, they end up swapping places. By having to live in each others’ shoes, they each come to understand that no one lives a charmed and carefree life.

Tom learns that though Prince Edward may not suffer any economic hardships, he does live under the weight of being heir to the throne. Being groomed to rule a nation is not an easy nor enviable life. Prince Edward learns the plight of the poor in his country. He also finds out how his father’s laws further oppress the poor. He remembers well what he’s learned and will enact reforms when he takes the throne.

I haven’t read Twain’s original novel, so I can’t comment on how faithful an adaptation this book is. I can say the manga version is well written. Both Tom and Prince Edward are sympathetic characters. The book does a good job of showing us the difficulties that both Tom and Prince Edward face in their normal and swapped daily lives. The book never shies away from the reality that taking all things into consideration, the Prince does lead the better life. It may be difficult to rule a nation, but it beats wondering how many days until your next meal. The book is also frank with the brutalities that the poor have visited upon them and visit upon each other. Parents should take note this book does have a couple brief depictions of child abuse. It delivers strong messages about justice, compassion, and responsibility without ever being preachy.

The artwork is serviceable. It’s simple and has a flat look to it. It reminds me of the art seen in cheaply animated shows of the 70’s aimed at small children. I always felt this style of art ‘talks down’ to children by implying that children can’t comprehend a complex visual language. Given the seriousness of the themes in this book, I would have preferred a more realistic and visually rich art style. Children raised in our current video culture can easily handle such art. I will credit the artist for doing a good job of researching 16th century England and making the clothes and environment realistic to that time and place.

Daddy-Long-Legs

Daddy-Long-Legs is an adaptation of Jean Webster’s novel. Jerusha Abbot is an 18-year-old girl who has spent most, if not all, of her life in an orphanage. Upon high school graduation, she must leave the orphanage and find her place in the world. However, Jerusha has been given an exceptional opportunity for a women at the turn of the 20th century. Ms. Lippett, the orphanage director, has convinced one of the trustees to sponsor Jerusha to go to college. There are conditions to her scholarship: 1) she is not given, nor is she to ask, the name of her benefactor; 2) she must write monthly letters to her benefactor, care of his agent, whom she may address as John Smith; and 3) she is not to expect, nor to ask for, letters from Mr. Smith. She nicknames her benefactor Daddy-Long-Legs based on the tall shadow she saw of him when he left the orphanage. The book then goes on to tell about Jerusha’s four years at a college through her letters to Mr. Smith.

Daddy-Long-Legs is a coming-of-age story. We watch as Jerusha slowly transforms from a shy and timid girl, embarrassed by her orphanage upbringing, to a confident woman who embraces her past and is ready to see what the world has to offer. She has a wonderful independent spirit and refuses to be controlled by anyone, including her benefactor. She’s a very likable character that you grow more attached to as she matures.

Again, I haven’t read the original novel, so I can’t comment on the how well this book adapts Webster’s work. The story in the manga is generally well done. It’s a great book to remind readers of what life was like for women just a hundred years ago. The vast majority of women didn’t go to college, weren’t members of the workforce, and couldn’t even vote. Girls like Jerusha were expected to find a man as quickly as possible, get married, and spend the rest of their lives maintaining a household. For me, it was a sobering reminder of the hard uphill battle women faced, and still face, to achieve independence and equality.

The story does falter at the end. About halfway through the book you will figure out who the mysterious benefactor is. There’s a love triangle toward the end where Mr. Smith’s keeping his identity a secret gives him insider information that he can use to his advantage. I found this to be a little creepy on Mr. Smith’s part. A more honorable man would have put all his cards on the table so Jerusha could make an honest and informed choice. Sorry, I’ve never subscribed to the ‘‘all’s far in love and war’’ school of romance.

The art is decent. It’s more realistic and mature than in The Prince and the Pauper. It seems to be a cross between the illustration style found in young adult novels and a bare-bones shojo house style. The artist uses soft watercolor tones. I would be more complementary of the art, but occasionally people are drawn off-model. When the panel is a static image, the art becomes quite good. The costumes and backgrounds are realistic to turn-of-the-20th-century America.

Both books have some nice extras included. At the beginning of each book is a cast of characters to help readers. There is a one-page biography of the original author at the back of each book and a timeline showing the major events in that author’s life as well as the major events happening in America. The Prince and the Pauper has a short biography of King Edward VI, and Daddy-Long-Legs has a history of women’s colleges in America. Overall, the books are well-packaged and would make nice gifts or additions to a library.

I wish that Y.Kids was a well-organized as their books. The front page of each book tells parents and teachers to visit the Y.Kids website for additional resources related to each book. However, at the website, there is nothing but product descriptions. The homepage for the Manga Literary Classics line again asserts, “Our website offers supplemental activities, resources, and study material to help you incorporate Y.Kids books into your child’s reading at home or into a classroom curriculum.” This material is simply non-existent. The website also states at the back of each book there is “a list of suggested web and print resources for related information.” Again, that is not true. Since Y.Kids is listing these as reasons to buy their books, you would think that they would be diligent in making this material available. I was looking forward to seeing the kind of material Y.Kids had prepared and was frustrated and angry when I came up empty-handed. They really need to correct this massive oversight/blunder.

Y.Kids does provide previews for all of their books including The Prince and the Pauper and Daddy-Long-Legs.

Putting aside the unkept promises, I highly recommend each book as a way to introduce young readers to each writer. Personally, I had never heard of Jean Webster, so I was introduced to a new author. Given that each original novel deals with a time period not familiar to most children, these manga will make the books more accessible to them. Hopefully, it will spark an interest in the original novels and other works by these authors.

First Look at Marvel Anime!

The first look at the joint project between Marvel and the Japanese animation company Madhouse was revealed today at the San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel Anime is a project that sees Western superheroes reinterpreted for the Eastern world in what is arguably the most popular medium in children's programming.

The first two series in the line of four planned Marvel Anime are Iron Man and Wolverine which are scheduled to premiere in Japan in Spring 2010. What do you think? Is this a good move? Are you willing to accept a completely different version of your favourite characters?

I personally think that this could be the coolest thing to happen in the world of superhero animation.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 10th Anniversary Movie Announced 2010

The November issue of V Jump magazine, which hits Japanese news stands this weekend, will formally announce a 2010 Yu-Gi-Oh! anime film commemorating the anime franchise’s 10th anniversary. The Gekijouban Yu-Gi-Oh! ~Cho-Yugo! Jiku o Koeta Kizuna~ motion picture will be a 3D anime that pits Yuugi Mutou, Judai Yuki, and Yusei Fudo – the protagonists of the three Yu-Gi-Oh! anime television series – against the new, original antagonist Paradox.
Yuugi, Judai, and Yusei will first team up in the short Yu-Gi-Oh! 10th Special anime movie that will screen this fall as part of this year’s Jump Super Anime Tour.

Super Mario Bros (SMB) is a platform game developed by Nintendo in late 1985 and published for the Nintendo Entertainment System, a sequel to the 1983 game, Mario Bros. In Super Mario Bros., the titular character Mario must save Princess Toadstool (eventually renamed to Princess Peach) of the Mushroom Kingdom from the evil King Koopa (later known as King Bowser), king of the Koopas. In two-player mode, Mario is aided in his quest by his younger brother, Luigi. In order to save Princess Toadstool, the Mario Bros. must conquer the eight worlds that comprise the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario (or Luigi) must make his way to the castle in each world and defeat one of King Koopa's evil minions. In order to reach each castle Mario or Luigi must battle through three "sub-worlds" by either destroying or avoiding King Koopa's henchmen. Genshiken

Based on the manga by Kio Shimoku, Genshiken follows the life of a collage club and its members. This particular club known as Genshiken is a place where its otaku members can gather and appreciate their love for media such as anime, manga, figurines and the culture of cosplaying. Sasahara Kanji is a freshman, though he soon becomes a new addition to Genshiken his interest in anime, manga and gaming allows him to easily fit in. The life of Genshiken may seem unfamiliar to some however its target audience will certainly appreciate what it has to offer. This great example of a slice of life incorporates much of the otaku culture and the stereotypes associated with it. Fulfilling the duty of an otaku in going to the comiket, spending time playing “various” games and sharing their overall interest in otaku life is what this series is about.

I actually missed this series in its initial release, it was not until a while later that I was informed about this series. At first I was quite confused as the first few minutes of the first episode features a clip from a series known as Kujibiki Unbalance. This typical romance comedy is made within Genshiken, in other words its an anime in an anime. I found that this was quite interesting concept, the idea of creating a famous series that existed within Genshiken is quite creative and it would seem that many others have taken a liking to this idea too. (Kujibiki Unbalance was later made into a spin off manga and anime series) As for the artwork, the attention to detail as it can be seen in the screen shots is something to be noted. There are many good things that can be said about this series but its much easier to just see it for yourself.

Cyborg She

Synopsis
It is November the 22nd, 2007. Jirou Kitamura (Keisuke Koide) is spending his 20th birthday alone. As he is buying a birthday present for himself in a department store, he catches sight of a 'cute girl' (Haruka Ayase). The girl, who also seems interested in him, follows him to a restaurant for his birthday meal, during which she suddenly states that it's 'her birthday too'. The two of them therefore exchange birthday presents. The girl, who seems unused to things as they are, behaves and speaks in a very bold manner- so much so that she rushes Jirou out of the restaurant without paying and provokes a chase after them throughout Tokyo. As the hijinks ensue, Jirou finds himself charmed by the girl. Unfortunately, after a few hours, the girl insists that she has to leave. After some mysterious words to him, she runs away, leaving him bemused.
It then moves back to November the 22nd, 2008. Exactly one year on from his 20th birthday, Jirou is celebrating his 21st birthday by himself in the same restaurant he ate in with the girl the previous year. All of a sudden, a girl the spitting image of her appears in front of him. This girl, however, has been sent to save him from a disastrous fate by a crippled future version of himself- she is, as his future self describes her, a cyborg modelled after the girl he met a year ago. Thus Jirou's strange life with the girl begins. Despite her 'cute' outward appearance, she is incredibly strong, and her behaviour is erratic and otherworldly in comparison to other people's. She comes to Jirou's aid whenever he is in a difficult situation, and indeed saves many other people's lives alongside his through her intervention.
Over time, Jirou not only becomes dependent on her, but also begins to fall for her. However, when it seems that she cannot return his feelings in the same way as he expresses them, he becomes irritated and forbids her to show herself in front of him again unless she can do so. He gradually regrets this, especially when it seems she is still doing things for him despite not being by his side. However, another disastrous incident which his future self hinted that he would have to suffer soon shows itself: a gigantic earthquake which completely devastated Tokyo as he knows it. As his apartment block collapses, the girl once again appears in order to help him- but this time, even her inhuman strength isn't enough to let her completely escape the consequences. After telling Jirou that she now understands his feelings, she is destroyed, and a distraught Jirou spends the next 61 years of his life trying to rebuild her. He eventually succeeds, although he passes away not too long afterwards.
In that future time, a girl is alerted by one of her friends that there is a cyborg on display that looks just like her. Upon realising that this is the case, she becomes increasingly curious about the situation, even going so far as to buy the now-shut down cyborg and experience the memories she had stored in her hard-drive. Feeling more intrigued than ever, she fulfils her wish of going back in time to meet the creator of the cyborg- Jirou Kitamura- on his 20th birthday in 2007...

Synopsis:
Two years after the events of Kamen Rider the First, a strange series of bizarre murders occur with the victims mutilated in a most gruesome fashion while pop star Chiharu's "Platinum Smile" is being played, becoming an urban legend. Meanwhile, Takeshi Hongo has become a high school science teacher with a troublesome class with one catching his attention, a troubled girl named Kotomi Kikuma who was best friends with Chiharu and is worried about her. By the time Hongo and she find a dying "Chiharu", they learn she's actually an imposter as the Shocker Inhumanoid Chainsaw Lizard arrives with the six Shocker Riders to carry out the task of executing Hongo, forcing him to reveal himself in as Kamen Rider 1 to Kotomi before escaping his hunters. At around the same time, Hayato Ichimonji is shown still alive but slowly weakening due to his body's rejection of the cybernetic changes which made him Kamen Rider 2.
The next day, after saving Kotomi from some punks by exposing his physical ability, Hongo accept Kotomi's offer to help in finding Chiharu by finding her older brother Shiro Kazami, who is former president of the rising IT enterprise ExaStream, which is tied to the mysterious dissappearence of its staff two months prior. Making their way to his holiday home to meet Kazami, Hongo and Kotomi soon learn that he in league with Shocker as Chainsaw Lizard and the Shocker Riders battle Kamen Rider on as Kazami joins the fray as a Shocker Inhumanoid code-named "V3". After chasing down Rider 1 in a highspeed chase across the countryside, V3 and the Shocker Riders take down Rider 1 until Kamen Rider 2 re-appears to cover Rider 1's escape. But after realizing his "sister" was another imposter, Kazami reveals the incident at ExaStream was a Shocker experiment of Nanobots designed to convert all humans in Japan into cyborgs, with him being a survivor of the experiment. The three riders later learn that Kotomi found the other girl, revealing the gruesome fate the real Chiharu suffered as she and predecessor were involved, horrifying Kazami as Kotomi is telepathically shown the truth of the real Chiharu's final moments as "Chiharu" runs off and eventually is brutally murdered with the manager and the record dealer who were covering up her death as Kotomi uses Platinum Smile to communicate with Chiharu, learning that she's still alive as the "ghost" took its leave.
After Kazami reveals to Hongo that Shocker's foreign branch brought a shipment of nanobots to spread them across the nation, Rider 1 arrives to intercept the convoy while battling Scissors Jaguar, the mastermind behind the Nanobot Operation, with Rider 2 arriving to back him up as the battle brings to the Legend of Gathering in an all out fight for the nanobots. Though the Double Riders were overwhelmed, the tables are turned as V3 arrives to support them. While the Double Riders kill Scissors Jaguar, V3 manages to destroy Chainsaw Lizard and the nanobots before coming face to face with Chiharu, horrifically mutated by the nanobots into a monster as she pleas her brother to put her out of her misery. Though reluctant to do it, Kazami executes the V3 Punch to honor his sister's wish to die rather then live as a monster in agonizing pain. After the Triple Riders escape the burning restaurant, Ichimonji takes his leave to spend his final moments in bliss at a Ginza bar he regulars, while Kazami decides to start a new life for himself. As for Hongo, he is forced to quit his job after a few complaints made for his earlier stunt as Kotomi decides to walk him home. The Platinum Smile incidents seemingly end as the credits roll.
However, though Chiharu finally died, the "curse of Platinum Smile" is still in effect.

Synopsis:
Ryotaro Nogami is a young man with a lot of bad luck. One day, he finds a strange pass and things got stranger from a mysterious girl and a large time-traveling train to being possessed by an entity called an Imagin, beings from an alternate future whose kind are attempting to change the past. Though slightly confused about the nature of the crisis, Ryotaro, along with the aid of the hot-headed, violent Imagin, dubbed Momotaros, becomes Kamen Rider Den-O, traveling to different times on the Den-Liner to battle the evil Imagin to prevent them from altering the past to affect the present and future. During his adventure, Ryotaro is joined by other Imagin who aid him as well; the lying, manipulating and womanizing Urataros, the herculean (and narcoleptic) Kintaros, and the childish yet powerful Ryutaros. He later meets the mysterious Yuto Sakurai and his bumbling Imagin partner Deneb. Yuto is not only Kamen Rider Zeronos but is the younger incarnation of Ryotaro's older sister Airi's fiance, Sakurai, who mysteriously disappeared and is tied to the mysteries revolving the Imagin and a person known as the Junction Point.

Synopsis:
Four thousand years ago, in China, a form of Kenpō martial arts was developed, the Beast-Fist (獣拳 ,Jūken?) style was created by a man named Brusa Ee who built the hidden Beast Origin Village (獣源郷 ,Jūgenkyō?). Beast-Fist is a martial art in which one mimics the abilities of animals as well as reach spiritual peace. However, dissent grew among the creator's ten students. Three believed that they should use the suffering and hatred harnessed within humans to increase their power, using their power to assume their monstrous forms, the Three Fist Demons. After Brusa Ee was murdered, the Fist Demons gathered followers to practice an evil form of the Beast-Fist style known as Confrontation Beast-Fist Akugata. The other seven students believed that true strength should come from within, engaging their former friends in a great war, ending the fight with a forbidden technique to seal the Fist Demons' powers at the cost of losing their own human forms in the process, becoming the Seven Fist Sages. Followers of the Fist Sages created the Fierce Beast-Fist Beast Arts school: the Beast-Fist of justice whose sport discipline enhances the human body with the self-produced positive Qi [β] called "Fierce Ki." It is taught by Grand Master Sha-Fu, one of the seven Fist Sages, using a sports goods company named "SCRTC" as a front. By present time, a fallen student from the Fierce Beast-Fist school named Rio turns to the Confrontation Beast Fist-style, rebuilding the Confrontation Beast Hall and bring the long-dead Confrontation Beast-Fist users back to life as kyonshi to collect Confrontation Ki, Fierce Ki's polar opposite Qi, in order to resurrect the Three Fist Demons so that through them, he can become stronger. To fight the new Confrontation Beast Hall, Sha-Fu had been training two youths: Ran Uzaki and Retsu Fukami. Along with Jan Kandou, a feral boy raised by tigers in the woods near the hidden village, the Gekiranger team is formed and later joined by two other Fierce Beast users to save the world from the Akugata's ambitions. However, an even greater evil is using the two sides for its own agenda.

Lion Maru G

Lion-Maru G (ライオン丸Ｇ ,Raionmaru Jī?) is a Japanese tokusatsu series that began airing from October 1, 2006 to November 24, 2006 in Japan, lasting 13 episodes. It is the third part in the Lion-Maru trilogy, following Kaiketsu Lion-Maru and Fuun Lion-Maru. The "G" is short for 'Gigolo'.

This series follows the story of the reincarnated Lion-Maru and Tiger Joe from the original Kaiketsu Lion-Maru. The story is set in the year 2011 in Neo-Kabukichō, a fictitious version of the real red light district of Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Synopsis:
Kamen Rider Kabuto revolves around the story of a man named Tendou Souji. He has trained seven years while waiting for the Kabuto Zecter so that he may properly take up the name of Kamen Rider Kabuto. Making many enemies while at the same time meeting other Riders with mysterious origins, Tendou attempts to accomplish his goal at all costs: protecting the girl Hiyori and destroying all Worms that otherwise threaten humanity. Making a friend in Kagami Arata, who later becomes Kamen Rider Gatack, the two work together and protect Hiyori along with humanity from the alien Worms that arrived from a meteorite seven years ago.

Kamen Rider Kabuto: God Speed Love

Synopsis:
In 1999, an enormous meteor crashed onto Earth carrying extraterrestrial creatures known as Worms within it. These creatures took on the identities of real humans and then killed them. In order to counter this new threat, ZECT was formed, who in turn created the Masked Rider System to combat the Worms. The battles lasts over seven years, depleting Earth's resources and turning it into a barren wasteland. By present time, power struggles in ZECT have caused a new group, known as Neo-ZECT, to be created by Hidenori Oda. Daisuke Kazama and Shura Hokuto are also part of Neo-ZECT.

With three groups in existence (Neo-ZECT, ZECT and the Worms), Souji Tendou has decided to sell his power to either Neo-ZECT or ZECT, but his intentions are unclear. At the same time, ZECT has obtained intelligence about a large comet orbiting the vicinity of space. By building the Jacob's Ladder space station, they plan to capture this meteor and spread its water throughout Earth, replenishing the Earth’s oceans. The space station includes a function that works in conjunction with the Rider System's Clock Up function. Tendou joins Neo-ZECT after telling ZECT that he attempts to disband it from the inside and manipulates ZECT and Neo-ZECT against each other. When Neo-ZECT's plan to take over the space station is initiated, both groups’ true colors come to light. Tendou proceeds to enter the space station for his true motive on helping both sides was to foil ZECT's secret plan. Meanwhile, Daisuke has been killed at the hands of Shura who has betrayed Neo-ZECT. Oda attempts to fight off this trap, and he is able to kill Yaguruma. Chasing after Shura however, he meets ZECT's legendary Rider, Caucasus, and is defeated in a matter of seconds. Kagami has also decided to marry Hiyori and they hope to build a future together. Kagami is then chosen to activate the space station's Clock Up function and must leave, but he promises Hiyori he will come back.

Tendou has arrived on Jacob's Ladder first however, and he attempts to foil ZECT's hidden motive. After fighting Ketaros, they both fall off the space station due to the Clock Up function pulling through another meteor infested with Worms. Kabuto is able to survive thanks to the Kabuto Extender, but Ketaros dies upon re-entry into Earth's atmosphere. Tendou and Kagami receive news however, that Hiyori is on the point of dying due to the exposure to the meteor dust years ago and it is then that Tendou reveals he is Hiyori's brother. Holding the wedding ceremony in a hospital, Hiyori dies soon afterwards. At this point, Shura tells Tendou that ZECT has betrayed them and is allied with the Worms. ZECT plans to let the meteor crash onto Earth so that the Worms will conquer humanity. However, it seems that Caucasus and the leaders of ZECT are the only ones who know of this plan and attempted to silence her for overhearing their plans. Shura then dies from the wounds inflicted on her as Tendou and Kagami take it on as their mission to save humanity from this disaster.

Making it to the space shuttle in time, they meet Caucasus, who explains to them that the meteor is the medium to transfer Worms. The missiles within the shuttle will be used to destroy weak humans. Humanity will be taken over by the Worms because Caucasus believes he will protect and fight for the strongest and most beautiful, the belief of the rose. The majority of the battle is in Caucasus' favor; however when Caucasus activates Maximum Rider Power and prepares to kill Tendou with a Rider Kick, Kagami steps in the way and protects Tendou. Tendou is then able to use this time to steal the Hyper Zecter from Caucasus, forcing him into an ejection chamber and launching him into space. Tendou then puts Kagami back in an escape pod and sends him on his way back to Earth. However, Caucasus, while in the void of space, latches on to Kagami's escape pod and punches a hole into the window, killing Kagami. At the same time, Tendou becomes Hyper Kabuto and through the use of Hyper Clock Up, he reverses time to save Kagami and destroy Caucasus, blowing him up along with the missiles in the space shuttle.

Tendou then uses the Hyper Zecter's Hyper Clock Up to send the second meteor back in time and force it to crash into the first meteor. The result is a small fragment that only hits Shibuya, minimizing the damage and erasing the future in which the Earth's oceans are dried up. However, the shockwave caused by the two meteors crashing hits Tendou and sends him flying backwards towards Earth. Afterwards, Tendou lands in Shibuya and finds himself in the same situation he was in seven years ago. This time however, he gives his belt to the younger Tendou who is then able to save Hiyori. With the disastrous future erased, Tendou disappears as his youngest self grows up and lives a better life in the new timeline.

Kamen Rider Kiva: King of the Castle in the Demon World

Synopsis:
The story begins in 2008 as the Antlion Fangire begins to feed until Megumi intervened as Nago arrives to slay the monster. However, during their struggle, the Mummy Legendorga suddenly resurrects and feeds on the humans before using his power to turn the Antlion Fangire into his slave to aid him in overwhelming Nago with the Arms Monsters watching the fight. While this occurred, Wataru Kurenai starts attending a local high school at Shizuka's suggestion and quickly befriends Natsuki Tsukue, who tries to get Wataru to join several clubs where he fails in each one while trying to ask her if she would like to start a violin club, she refuses out right.

Later that night, death row inmate Takashi Sugimura has escaped from prison and the pursuing police officers by means of a dark power possessing him, with Nago going after him under advisement from Mamoru Shima to capture the fugitive with caution as he may be a Fangire. When Nago finds Sugimura, he chases the fugitive all the way to Wataru's high school and takes Natsuki hostage, but she is freed by the joint efforts of Wataru and Nago. However, the Medusa and Mummy Legendorgas appear to Sugimura's aid when he was being escorted back to jail, overpowering Ixa as Kiva arrives. They overpower the riders until another figure named Takato Shiramine appears, transforming into Kamen Rider Rey and drives the two Legendorgas off as they take Sugimura with them, waking him as their Lord.

At the cafe, as Shiramine explains the Legendorgas, Wataru finds that the current crisis started when Sugimura attempted to break out of jail by using the famous violinist Towa Sakakibara as a hostage in 1986 and broke the Legendorgas' seal. With this knowledge, Wataru asks the Arm Monsters permission to use Castle Doran's Time Door to go back in time to prevent the woman's death. While trying to get Sakakibara to cancel her concert, he is stopped by Otoya who was convinced he was a Fangire and tries to beat him. After another attempt to talk to her, Wataru is attacked by Yuri after Otoya tells her about him as the police arrive to arrest Otoya on the impression he's the criminal. Forced to take Wataru in a stolen police car, Otoya is shocked when Wataru recognized him as his father. Wataru attempts to prove himself with his cellphone and money before he and his father are both sent to the prison where Towa is to perform, with Sugimura attempting to use her a hostage to escape. But Otoya knocks out a guard so he and Wataru can get out of their cell to save Towa and restain Sugimura.

After Wataru returns to his time, the knocked out guard turns out to be Zebra Fangire thatattacks Otoya before trying to kill Towa. But Yuri arrives to allow Otoya to kill the Fangire as Ixa, causing the chain of events where Sugimura escapes and uncovers the tomb of the Legendorga Lord, envoking the spirit within it. When Wataru returns to his time, he is targeted by people under the control of the Mummy Legendorga, with the Gargolye Legendorga overseeing their attack. Luckily, Otoya and Yuri arrive to aid their future children, later bonding with them before Otoya reveals that Towa Sakakibara is the stage name of Natsumi Tsukue, mother of Natsuki. Otoya is enjoying the present and its perks after disguising Wataru so he wouldn't be attacked, meeting up with Shiramine before he is distracted by a young woman named Sayaka as Shiramine tells Wataru that Kiva's destruction will soon come as Sakaya reveals herself as the Medusa Legendorga.

Becoming Kiva to fight the Legendorgas, he summons Buroon Booster which he uses to destroys the Mandrake Legendorga as the Arm Monsters arrive to aid Kiva in fighting the remaining three in both their true forms and in their weapon forms. However, as his friends drive the monsters off, Kiva is attacked by Rey who reveals that he is on the Legendorgas' side as he then takes the Aso girls hostage. Later at the cafe, after Otoya plays Natsumi's song to help Natsuki finally accept her mother, Rey-kivat arrives with orders to take Wataru go to the Legendorgas' castle alone. After knocking his father out, Wataru arrives at the castle and is brought before Sugimura, who reveals himself to be the vessel of the Legendorga Lord Arc who was defeated by the original Kiva and uses his power to force Wataru's Fangire blood to manifest into Kiva's Flight Style. Under Arc's control, Wataru is forced to have Otoya relinguish his Ixa Knuckle as Nago arrives to help. But once he loses his Ixa Knuckle, Yuri and Megumi arrive after freeing themselves and use their time-respective Ixa Knuckles to fight the Legendorgas with Otoya managing to snap his son out of Arc's spell as the Aso girls kill the Medusa Legendorga.

Enraged, Sugimura decides to kill Wataru as they both assume their Rider Forms as the Ixa Knuckles are returned to Otoya and Nago who fight the Mummy Legendorga and Rey, respectively. Nago eventually gets the best of Rey, destroying him, while Otoya eventually destroys the Mummy Legendorga, even though his Save Mode helmet is heavily damaged in the process. While this occurred, Kiva is forced to assume Emperor Form to deal with the larger opponent, weakening him enough so he can be defeated by both of the Kurenai family Riders. However, Arc asborbs the power of race to become Legend Arc to kill them. Kiva then transforms into Emperor Form's Flight Style to destroy Legend Arc with Castle Doran's aid. After everything returns to normal, Otoya performs alongside his son on their violins at Wataru's school before he and Yuri return to their time. Once they left, Wataru is joined by Natsuki as the two perform a duet.

Kamen Rider Kabuto : Hyper Battle

About This Movie:
The Hyper Battle Video for Kamen Rider Kabuto, Enter! Hyper Gatack was released during the later half of 2006. Within this direct-to-video feature, Hyper Gatack appears, albeit only featuring an enforced "Tachyon Fractor". Also, this is the only instance in which the Zecters are able to talk. Gatack Zecter is voiced by Kōji Yusa, while Kabuto Zecter is voiced by Tomokazu Seki.

Synopsis:
Set after the events of Kamen Rider Den-O, Ryoutaro and the Den-Liner gang have set up a detective agency called the Den-Liner Police (デンライナー署 ,Denrainā Sho?) who seek to keep the Imagin that survived the Junction Point in check after an Imagin stole a spare Den-O Pass from Owner while he was training. While pursuing the Pink Rabbit Imagin via car chase, they cross paths with the Horse Fangire as Den-O and the Tarōs battle them, killing the two monsters and not finding the Den-O Pass on either. Soon after, the Den-Liner Police are joined by detective Kazuya Suzuki, who tells them of an "Evil Organization" that is making itself known in the criminal underworld. After R-Ryotaro's "arrest spree", Ryotaro and Kazuya encounter Wataru Kurenai and Shizuka as they are suspiciously digging up items for a new violin varnish. After a small spat with U-Ryotaro and an unintentional possession of Wataru by Momotaros, Ryotaro and Kazuya locate the base of the Evil Organization after Wataru tips them off. There, before being chased out, they find Yuto with the organization's leader, the Imagin Negataros, and a man that Kazuya recognizes as wanted criminal Seiya Kuroki. Acting on his own, Kazuya attempts to arrest Kuroki, only to be ambushed by the Clown Imagin. However, with a drunk Deneb and Naomi as a distraction, Yuto, who has been working incognito, attempts to free Kazuya. Before he can ambush Sarah with a metal bat, he is possessed by Urataros who manages to successfuly woo her and wrest the gun away. Yuto kicks Urataros out as he fights her and the Clown Imagin as Kuroki arrives, with K-Ryotaro providing backup. Negataros takes his leave while activating the detonation device with everyone making it out.

At the Den-Liner, after Kazuya apologises for almost getting everyone killed and explaining his reasons to be avenging his father Kazuma, Yuto reveals Negataros's plans. Despite telling them that he's too strong, the Den-Liner Police decide to attack at full strength together. The next day, Negataros begins to set his plan in motion with Kamen Riders Den-O and Zeronos, along with their Imagin partners, standing in his way while Suzuki arrests Kuroki after the Den-Liner takes him and his posse away from the fight. However, Negataros uses the Den-O Pass to become Nega Den-O as the fight begins. As the Tarōs deal with the Fangires, Zeronos battles the Clown Imagin while Den-O dukes it out with Nega Den-O. Nega Den-O easily gains the upper hand against all four Den-O forms, but before he can finish him off, Kamen Rider Kiva arrives to turn the tables as Den-O Climax Form joins him in a Double Rider Kick. The impact forces Negataros out of his Rider form. Refusing to accept defeat, Nega Den-O escapes in the Nega Den-Liner with Den-Liner and Zero-Liner in pursuit. Castle Doran joins the fight as all three giants destroy the Nega Den-Liner, taking out Negataros for good. Soon after, Ryotaro takes Kazuya to 1986 to see Kazuma as he was interviewing Otoya on an investigation, giving the young detective closure. Though they succeeded in their mission to stop Negataros, Momotaros decides to keep the Den-Liner Police going as he considers being a cop a cool thing. After they succeed in cornering a couple of crooks, Deneb attempts to ask for Yuto to join the Den-Liner Police, failing to see the crooks they cornered escape with the Den-Liner Police and Yuto chasing after them.

Synopsis:
Four years after an alternate ending to the series, in which Blade seals the Joker, the characters have moved on with their lives: Kenzaki is a garbage man, Mutsuki has graduated high school, and Kotarō has published a book about the Kamen Riders to great success. The Undead have been re-released, and a new trio of Kamen Riders—Glaive, Larc and Lance—have emerged from BOARD, now led by Tachibana. After recapturing two of the Category Aces, Kenzaki and Mutsuki join with the new Riders. When all the Undead are sealed once more, Glaive reveals himself to be the Albino Joker, a white version of the original Joker, and captures Kotarō's niece to obtain the ultimate power, sealing her in the Vanity Card. In order to free Amane from the card, Hajime is unsealed from the Joker Card and the four Riders are again united, intent on saving Amane and stopping the Albino Joker.

Kamen Rider Den-O The Movie: I'm Born! (劇場版　仮面ライダー電王　俺、誕生！ Gekijōban Kamen Raidā Den'ō Ore, Tanjō!?) premiered in August 4, 2007. This is the second Heisei era film in the Kamen Rider Series to be part of the storyline of its television series since Kamen Rider Agito. The film features the renegade Kamen Rider Gaoh who takes control of the Den-Liner to bring it to the Edo period to find his own train, the Gaoh-Liner, so he can take over all of time and space.[4][5] Alongside I am Born!, the Juken Sentai Gekiranger movie Juken Sentai Gekiranger: Nei-Nei! Hō-Hō! Hong Kong Decisive Battle was shown as double feature. A short animated feature called Momotaros's Summer Vacation was shown along with the films, as well.

Two Tokusatsu series i loved very much the sequals of both series are also awesome.
But the originals where way better it will be a sure thing that in the future i will watch them again like 20 times.
Nothing else special to say this is just an excuse to post the vids in a blog XD but they are worth being checked out nothing like Power Rangers. :)

Summer 2009 Anime Season Preview

Before I knew it, the end of the Spring 2009 Anime season is coming to an end really soon, and that means it’s time to preview what will be airing in Summer season. Also I think I’m starting to lose my memories if it’s the Summer season that is a let down or another season. But looking back at last year’s Summer season there were some hits in the mix. Umi Monogatari ~Anata ga Ite Kureta Koto~

Synopsis: The story centers on Marin and Urin, two sisters who live in the sea. One day, a beautiful ring falls in the middle of the sea, and Marin and Urin retrieve it. The two decide to leave their waterbound world for the first time to deliver the ring. After an arduous journey, they come across an isolated island where a high school girl named Kanon lives. The encounter between Marin and Kanon — the maiden of the sea and the maiden of the skies — awakens a hidden power as the world is threatened by an enveloping darkness.

Adun’s Thoughts: This is ZEXCS new series for the Summer season and given that I like most of their series, this will be something to look forward to. I didn’t have any concrete opinion on this series until I scoped its trailer on Youtube; the hints of yuri and some magical-girl-esque transformation sequences are high points. I’ll leave this one to Adun since he’s the master of water anime around these parts.

Sign me up. The fact that I bought the Plug-chan figure during my first Japan trip may slightly influence my opinion.

She enters the school year with her heart broken by a previous relationship. Adun’s Thoughts: I’m not too sure on what to think about this series after reading the synopsis and the trailer doesn’t show that much either. I’m sure it’ll be something interesting though as this is another J.C Staff and Kasai Kenichi (who did the Nodame Cantabile and Honey & Clover series). I’ll give it a few eps and decide if I want to continue watching or not.

Mini’s Thoughts: I’ve read a bit of the manga, and if the anime is good enough to capture its essence, this series might be a sleeper hit on my priority list. The voice actors for the two main girls appear to be relatively new to the industry so it’ll be intriguing to see how they go.

Anyway this looks to be a shounen type series and its good to see an action series in the mix of all the moé. Madhouse Studios is the one producing this so it should be good.

Mini’s Thoughts: No trailer? Non-accessible story and character areas on the official website? C’mon Madhouse, give me something to work with here.

Taisho Yakyuu Musume
Air Date: 2nd July
Synopsis: Set in 1925 (Taisho era) the story follows Koume and Akiki who decide to create a baseball team but have to recruit more players to reach their goals.

Adun’s Thoughts: I don’t have that much of an interest in baseball and the premise of the series doesn’t appeal to me either. However seeing the seiyuu list there are some notable names, and this is J.C Staff’s 2nd series for Summer. Most likely just give it a few episodes but I doubt I’ll continue watching.

Mini’s Thoughts: Full marks for an original premise. I’m getting some Strike Witches-esque vibes from this, and the presence of Mai Nakahara and Mamiko Noto in the voice cast is a definite plus. Checking out the first few episodes at least.

CANAAN
Air Date: 4th July
Synopsis: A present-day story about a detective, a young man, a virus researcher, a freelance writer, and a cat mascot character who are brought together by bizarre events with worldwide implications in the Tokyo neighborhood of Shibuya.

Adun’s Thoughts: What can I say about this series other than some pretty high expectations. With character designs from TYPE-MOON, and animation studio and staff that worked on things such as GITS, Darker than Black, and true tears. Having a look at the trailer doesn’t reveal much but it’s certainly a series to have a look at in the Summer season.

Mini’s Thoughts: Sure the character designs by TYPE-MOON are easy on the eyes but I’m not a great fan of the po-faced action genre so I’ll give this a pass.

Princess Lover!
Air Date: 5th July
Synopsis: Main protagonist, Teppei is taken in by his grandfather after the unfortunate death of his parents. It turns out that Teppei’s grandfather is a force in the economic, high society world of Japan, and without a successor his grandfather makes him the legitimate heir. Adun’s Thoughts: Yes another ero-game turned anime, but I read that the anime is supposedly not following the same premise as the game. However the first thing about the female characters was a Saber look-a-like. Anyway there certainly is a mix of different girls here and looking at the trailer does seem to make it look good. Although I will watch it, not terribly excited about it.

Mini’s Thoughts: Harem anime - now this is what I’m talking about. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this stereotypical genre. Cute girls, fun trailer. Unfortunately the male protagonist will probably be the typical “freaks out when he gets near a girl” type but I have to take what I can get. Making a pre-emptive “Seika is my waifu” declaration - incidentally she’s voiced by Emiri Katou, who was Sakuya in the Candy Boy ONAs (and some other character called Kagami, pfft).

Kanamemo
Air Date: 5th July
Synopsis: The story centers on Kana Nakamichi, a middle-school girl who had already lost her parents and just recently lost her only remaining relative, her grandmother. As a result, she ends up living and working at a newspaper delivery office. Everyone else living at the office are all charming, self-assertive bishōjo. The manga follows Kana’s daily life in the fast-paced yet joyous environment.

Mini’s Thoughts: Another genre I’ll never get tired of is the light-hearted daily life series, and Kanamemo definitely looks like I’ll fit the bill. A big plus point is the fact that Kana is voiced by none other than Aki Toyosaki, so I’ll be blessed with another 13 weeks of Yui-voice. If the trailer’s an accurate indicator, Kana appears to be very much like Yui, but with less airheadedness.

GA:Geijutsuka Art Design Class
Air Date: 6th July
Synopsis: Slice of life story revolves around 5 freshmen girls in a high school arts class.

Adun’s Thoughts: Initial impressions I get is Hidamari Sketch straight away. Not surprising since this is also coming from a 4-koma manga. Though there really isn’t a lot of info out there for this series but I’m sure Mini would be excited about this.

Mini’s Thoughts: You bet I’m excited! 110% full-steam-ahead no-begging-yer-pardons excited! I spotted the manga on a whim at Kings Comics during the last Free Comic Book Day sale and love it to bits. Adun isn’t too far off - GA is reminiscent of Hidamari Sketch, if Yuno was less skilled and more easily flustered (saying more would be a spoiler), and there were more madcap comedy antics going on. Kisaragi is such a darling, along with the rest of the cast. It is my fervent hope, however, that whoever fansubs GA will translate Professor’s name as “Professor” instead of leaving it as “Kyoujyu”.

Ōkami to Kōshinryō II
Air Date: 8th July
Synopsis: Continuation from first season.

Adun’s Thoughts: Really there’s no need for a synopsis of this series and by far this is the only series I REALLY look forward to this season. Leading up to the Summer season I’ve been rewatching the first season in beautiful Blu-ray quality and I look forward to more of Horo and Lawrence’s economic adventures with that hint of romance and slyness that we got from the first season.

Mini’s Thoughts: I haven’t even seen the first season of this series, and most likely never will thanks to a hard drive crash that occurred earlier in the week (thanks for nothing Seagate, you incompetent bastards) so there’s no point for me to watch this.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Air Date: 9th July
Synopsis: two siblings and a single mother trying to survive together after a massive earthquake hits Tokyo during the Summer vacation changing everyone’s lives forever.

Adun’s Thoughts: So this is BONES new series for Summer and seems to be an original story. An earthquake stricken Tokyo doesn’t sound all that appealing but I’m willing to give a BONES series a chance.

Mini’s Thoughts: The last BONES series I liked was Eureka Seven and that was substantially a fantastical story, unlike this more realistic series. If I wanted to look at a disaster I’d read more about Netanyahu’s sabotage of the Israel-Palestine peace process. Pass.

Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou
Air Date: 11th July
Synopsis: Koyomi Morishita is a clumsy high school student who becomes the apprentice of Misa Anehara, a 25 year old graduate student who is one of the most powerful modern day magicians.

Mini’s Thoughts: This series is looking pretty good. There’s the main girl voiced by Ai Nonaka (Konoka! Kafuka! Imo-chan! Shima!). There’s a hot bespectacled teacher who uses cellphone magic. There’s a bunch of spell-flinging pyrotechnics. Could be a winner.

Adun’s Final Thoughts: At first I thought the Summer season would be a bit of a let down but there seems to be a few that perk my interest. Out of all listed here I think I’ll blog Umi Monogatari and maybe Wolf and Spice II. With Tayutama and Polyphonica Crimson S ending it only leaves me with Hayate No Gotoku!! to continue on. Seeing how I’ve gone since Spring season I think my limit is two series due to all the work of real life killing my free time.

Mini’s Final Thoughts: Much like Adun, I thought this season would be a wasteland, with only GA as the only series worth watching. I’ve since evaluated my options and will be adding Kanamemo and Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou as high-priority, with Princess Lover and Juuden-chan as mid-priority. Though if Seika proves to be super-moé, Princess Lover’s status will be elevated.

New Live-Action TV Drama Special for Sazae-san

The new live-action adaptation has been in the works for Fuji TV for about five years now and producer Yoko Matsusaki of the anime version is working on the new drama version as well.

The anime version of this long running series will be celebrating it's 40th anniversary on Fuji TV this October. Though this new TV Drama version is new for the series, a live action adaptation is not. Tonko Azumaya starred in a 1948-1950 series of live-action movies, and Chiemi Eri starred in a 1956 live-action film, as well as a live-action drsama that ran from 1965 to 1967 on TBS. Even the Television Drama isn't all that unusual; Tomoko Hoshino played Sazae-san in a live-action tv drama on Fuji TV from 1981 to 1985. The last life-action version was in 1992-1996 on Fuji TV with Atsuko Asano.

The series consistently pulls in the ratings that keeps it on the air and Mizuki says she remembers watching the Asano version when she was in middle school and noted the fast-tempo comedy of that version.

So my brother is home for the holidays, and this time he could see I really exist. Currently I'm playing with him Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on my DS while I sit at my computer writing.

My Bro and I have been in games for a while, but my brother never liked handhelds as much as I do. Basically my rotten twin brother is sleeping all day, while I toil and study during his visits home.

Man, I feel tired today.

The uncertainty of waiting for your application to consider after you spent the previous day picking apart what you said in your introductory letter to the likely boss who may or may not employ.

This and more is what I have to deal with today. Especially because I had a real deadline, I wanted to for the first time in years.

First my application out of the way was a relief because I really want this job, and I would want to be to try to be in a job I would want. I also emailed my publisher, who has been waiting around for me an e-mail her back, although I would have simply emailed weeks.

Au fil des épisodes, les protagonistes tenteront de lever le voile sur cet univers virtuel tout en se découvrant souvent eux-même et en réunissant peu à peu les pièces d’un immense secret qui pèse sur chacun d’eux, et sur la ville toute entière.

L’univers de la série est son principal point fort : même si la ville de Daikoku est comme n’importe quelle autre ville japonaise à première vue, dès qu’on porte des lunettes virtuelles la ville se découvre sous un tout autre aspect, transformant des lieux anodins en champs de bataille pour hackeurs, des bâtiments en construction en labyrinthes à l’espace virtuel imparfait et découvrant à certains endroits des espaces obsolètes d’où émane un brouillard virtuel troublant. Face à l’accroissement des entorses aux lois virtuelles de la ville, un anti-virus a été mis en place dans la ville, et c’est dorénavant un énorme bonhomme rouge qui parcourt les rues en traquant le moindre bug et en répétant à tout va « Moi Satchi ! » (Satchi = Satchimaton = Searchmaton = Automate de recherche), mettant nos protagonistes dans bien des situations gênantes puisque ceux-ci sont couverts de metatags qui, même s’ils ne sont qu’une entorse légère aux règles, sont supprimés sur le champ par Satchi, grillant au passage les lunettes virtuelles dont la réparation coûte assez cher. Ils peuvent néanmoins trouver refuge dans des temples ou des habitations, puisque le domaine d’action de Satchi se limite aux zones qui dépendent du ministère de la Poste, et qu’il est impossible pour lui d’aller au-delà, ou même de repérer quelqu’un qui s’y cache. Certains programmes permettraient même de créer de petites zones indépendantes à l’endroit désiré, quiconque se placerait à l’intérieur deviendrait invisible aux yeux de Satchi. Les illégaux sont aussi détruits sans pitié par Satchi et les sphères qui se détachent de son estomac, qui n’hésitent pas à lasériser la moindre anomalie qui se présente. Même si l’univers de la série est très recherché, les personnages ne sont pas en reste. Les liens qui les unissent sont très complexes, et son à merveille mis en image par le monde virtuel qui les entoure lorsqu’ils portent les lunettes, et que la réalité se confond au virtuel. Leurs caractères sont souvent opposés, et leur affinité ne se limite donc pas aux points qu’ils ont en commun. Yasako est par exemple une fille calme et posée, pas très débrouillarde mais pleine de bons sentiments, alors que Fumi est beaucoup plus expressive, et se chamaille à longueur de temps avec Daichi, petit morveux qui révèle pourtant beaucoup de points positifs qui le rendent attachant au fil des épisodes. Yasako n’abandonnera d’ailleurs jamais l’idée de devenir amie avec Isako, même si celle-ci la rejette constamment, concluant que Yasako dépend des autres parce qu’elle était persécutée dans son ancien établissement. La psychologie des personnages dépasse même le cliché du « grand méchant », puisqu’il n’y en a pas vraiment, on assiste simplement à un conflit entre des personnes humaines qui tentent de se comprendre mutuellement, ou se sont éloigné après avoir vécu plusieurs expériences ensemble, la série nous expose aussi à une certaine vision de l'enfance. Le personnage d’Haraken est par exemple très touchant, même si sa constante apathie est plus énervante qu’autre chose au départ, il se révèle être beaucoup plus attachant lorsqu’on découvre le lien profond qui l’unissait avec Kanna, son amie injustement fautive dans son propre décès. Ce lien avec l’univers virtuel est aussi un moyen de souligner la distance qui sépare les personnages, comme par exemple lorsque Yasako caresse la fourrure de Daisuke, son chien virtuel, alors qu’elle ne peut pas la sentir. De nombreuses autres métaphores viennent compléter la série, de manière parfois imperceptible, pour la plupart on a du mal à en déceler le sens mais leur présence reste indiscutable, comme lors de l’épisode où nos protagonistes ont affaire à un illégal qui se nourrit de textures, montrant bien qu’il adore les rouges et déteste celles qui ont une couleur noire. Des métaphores d’une importance capitale qui se retrouvent même dans l’humour de la série comme avec les Mojos, ces petits tas de poils virtuels hilarants qui forment un joyeux squad pour servir l’autoritaire Isako. La petite sœur de Yasako est aussi un personnage secondaire important, puisqu’elle incarne l’innocence même (ce qui ne l’empêche pas d’être une petite sœur très turbulente) et s’avère être une cible de choix pour les illégaux. Des personnages variés dont les caractères se complètent et diffèrent sans pour autant aller vers le même objectif.

La particularité de Dennou Coil se retrouve aussi évidemment au niveau graphique et particulièrement dans son charadesign. Un design à première vue très enfantin qui n’empêche pas certains épisodes de nous plonger dans une ambiance complexe, presque effrayante, et sert à merveille l’humour et les divers caractères des personnages de la série. Le charadesign n’empêche pas pour autant de prendre les personnages et l’univers au sérieux tant l’ambiance de la ville est fouillée, et les légendes urbaines qui courent à propos de ces lunettes et du monde virtuel sont fascinantes. Le trait très du dessin est très grossier et assez épais, mais pourtant il reste très précis et n’est en rien hésitant, là aussi il est très rare de voir une série mêler avec autant d’habileté humour et sérieux avec pour seul objectif faire rire et réfléchir le spectateur. Le générique d’ouverture, quand à lui, abandonne quelque peu ce côté drôle pour servir à merveille l’ambiance énigmatique de la série, avec une musique très troublante et mystérieuse. L’ending est beaucoup plus classique, mais reste acceptable, mais dans tous les cas on s’y retrouve sans problème dans ce juste équilibre. Si l’humour est si agréable, c’est certainement parce qu’il nous plonge toujours dans la dérision pour transmettre des idées très graves et sérieuses, comme pour les persécutions, la guerre ou la mort d’un être cher. Une manière extravagante de ne pas tomber dans le pathos tout en exploitant au maximum l’univers virtuel et les caractères des personnages de la série.

Dennou Coil est donc une série immanquable pour les amateurs d’animés, qui y trouveront sans problème un grand bol d’air frais et une approche différente de l’animation japonaise. Sans aucun doute l’une des meilleures séries du début de l’année 2007, un régal pour les yeux et pour l’esprit pour peu qu’on prenne la peine de s’y attarder, et d’aller au-delà des apparences, parce que c’est bien là la particularité d’un monde virtuel : montrer une image décalée, inhabituelle du monde pour nous permettre de mieux le comprendre, de le défendre et de l’apprécier à sa juste valeur !

Dennou Coil won the 29th Nihon Sci-Fi Taishou Awards

Mitsuo Iso’s Dennou Coil won the Nihon Science Fictions awards and Shin Sekai Yori by Yuusuke Kishi’s, The Dennou Coil series was an adaptation by Yasako Miyamura’s novel.

Dennou Coil already won a Seiun Award from the 46th Japan Science Fiction Convention “Nihon Science Fiction Taikai” last August.

The theme of the awarding features the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America’s Nebula Awards.

Director Mitsuo Iso also won an individual award at the anime industry’s 13th Animation Kobe Awards.

It also won an “Excellence Prize” in the 2007 (11th) Japan Media Arts Festival Awards from Japan’s Ministry of Cultural Affairs last December.

Terminator “Will Be Back” In 2 Months!!

The war between man and machine will continue! Machines will come back hunting for John Connor (Christian Bale). But yet again “The Terminator” will also be there to protect him from being killed!

This time, Skynet is going to cross all the limits trying to kill Connor, by involving all the kinds of forces that can be applied into the mission.

This one going to have LOADS of technology involved in it as can be easily made out from the trailer, but the only thing we all are going to miss in the movie is the absence of Arnold!

Sam Worthington is playing the role of the Terminator Marcus Wright this time, and I know that he has done a complete justice in his part!

The movie is coming out on 21 May 2009. Fans have waited a pretty long time for this fourth installment to the series, and there their wait will be over in just two short months!

Dragon Ball Z live action

James Masters(Piccolo)

in a recent interview with Jump Square magazine (August Issue) finnaly decided to talk about the movie and about his relations with his other co-stars of the movie.

He mentioned that the movie is different from the actual anime series and doesn’t have all the characters which have their roles in the anime series by Akira Toriyama. He mentions that, though some characters have been removed the core story of the movie remains the same.

While talking about the relations with the other characters(actors) of the movie, he says that his role has very less scenes with the other characters. He says that his character(Piccolo) is a lonely character, who is mostly is the air floating in a beautiful background. Rozen Maiden

This is what I love about my break! I can watch as many shows as I want! Here's one I finished yesterday, Rozen Maiden. Cute little dolls (my personal fave: Hinaichigo >.<) who fight each other to become the Alice who will get to meet their creater whom they call father. The story first came out in manga format that just finished this year in June 2007 with a total of eight volumes and was then adapted for the anime in 2004. Anywho, the story in the anime is obviously different from the story in the manga since the manga concluded after the ending of both seasons of the anime. Overall a great series and worth the watch. I'm including a brief synopsis of some of my fave characters ^_^

Shinku: she's not as gentle as she looks but she's a lady who doesn't tolerateof her servants slip ups.She has a really deep and caring personality especially for her medium Jun. She often gives amazing advice that comes in really handy. Overall she's the doll that the other dolls look up to.

Hinaichigo: just like her name says she loves
any strawberrys in practically everything. Her sweet
and caring nature gives her the smile and adorable
personality that makes even her enemies fall for
cuteness. She's really naieve and easily cries when
provoked. Out of all the dolls she's the most innocent
and is taken advantage of because of that.
